Arsenic Removal Filter and Plants

Arsenic has no taste, smell or colour, and it does not show up on a TDS meter. The only way to know whether your boring has it is a laboratory test.

If it does, an arsenic removal filter sized for your flow can bring it below the national limit.

Arsenic in water: why it matters in Punjab

In 2017, researchers mapped arsenic risk across Pakistan using nearly 1,200 groundwater samples.

They estimated that 50 to 60 million people use groundwater in the area at risk, with hot spots around Lahore.

Levels can vary widely between nearby wells, so a neighbour's result does not tell you yours. Dawn's report on the study

Pakistan's national standard allows up to 50 micrograms per litre (0.05 mg/L). The World Health Organization's guideline is 10 micrograms per litre.

Long-term exposure is linked to skin disorders, heart disease and some cancers, which is why the limits exist.

Testing comes first

Our free general test checks TDS and pH. It does not measure arsenic. Arsenic needs a full laboratory test, which has a charge.

Arsenic filter options: media plant or RO

Adsorption media plant

Water passes through vessels filled with a media that arsenic sticks to. These plants handle larger flows, including whole-house and community supply.

The media gets used up over time and must be replaced before arsenic starts passing through.

RO

An RO plant or a home RO filter reduces arsenic along with the salts.

It suits drinking water volumes, and the removed arsenic leaves in the reject water.

Arsenic in groundwater comes in two forms.

According to the study's lead author, the form found across much of the Indus plain is easier to filter out than the form common in Bengal.

Some water still needs an oxidation step first, to convert arsenic into the easier form.

After installation

A filter that worked last year can let arsenic through once its media is used up. The only real check is another lab test.

We recommend one after installation, whenever the media is changed, and at least once a year.

Price

Price depends on daily volume, the arsenic level and the method. Send your lab report on WhatsApp for a quote.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does boiling remove arsenic?

No. Boiling does not remove arsenic. As water evaporates, the arsenic left behind becomes more concentrated.

Will a normal filter or UV remove arsenic?

No. Sediment, carbon and UV stages do not remove dissolved arsenic. You need an arsenic removal plant or RO.

Does RO remove arsenic?

RO reduces arsenic substantially along with the salts. Confirm the result with a lab test of the treated water after installation.

Is arsenic a problem in Sialkot?

Arsenic levels vary from boring to boring, even within one area. The only way to know about your water is a laboratory test.

Can your free water test detect arsenic?

No. The free general test covers TDS and pH. Arsenic needs a full laboratory test, which has a charge.
