Water Filter Plant: UF Water Filtration Plants

A water filter plant removes silt, rust and germs from water whose TDS is already acceptable, for a whole house, a mosque or a housing society.

Built around ultra filtration (UF), it keeps the dissolved minerals in and sends very little water to the drain.

If the water tastes salty, you need an RO plant instead.

Water filtration plant types

Community water filtration plant

Best for: Mosques, housing societies, public taps

Runs at low pressure and wastes little water, so it suits sites where many people fill bottles from one plant.

Whole house water filter

Best for: Homes on muddy or rusty line water

Sand, carbon and cartridge stages on the main line, so bathrooms, kitchen and washing machine all get clean water.

Commercial filtration plant

Best for: Hotels, restaurants, offices

Clean water at every tap, not only at the drinking point.

Pre-filtration before RO

Best for: Factories and large RO plants

Sand, carbon and UF stages cut the load on the RO membranes.

What is inside a water filter plant

  1. Feed pump

Moves raw water from the tank into the plant.

  2. Sand (multimedia) filter

Layers of gravel and sand trap silt and rust. It is backwashed to clean itself.

  3. Activated carbon filter

Removes chlorine, smell and some chemicals.

  4. Micron cartridges

Catch fine particles before the membrane.

  5. UF membrane

Pores around 0.01 micron hold back fine suspended solids and bacteria.

  6. UV sterilizer

A final disinfection step as water leaves the plant.

UF membranes are usually hollow fibre modules, which can be backwashed to clear the dirt they hold back.

1000 litre water filter plant: what it means

A "1000 litre water filter plant" usually means 1,000 litres per hour of output, not a 1,000 litre tank.

Ask which one a quote means before you compare prices. Running 10 hours a day, a 1,000 LPH plant makes 10,000 litres.

Market prices in October 2026 run from about PKR 150,000 to 250,000 for a small sand and carbon filtration plant to around PKR 485,000 to 550,000 for a UF plant.

Water filter plant sizes people ask about
Plant size people ask forLitres in a 10 hour day
50 litre about 500
200 litre about 2,000
1,000 litre about 10,000
2,000 litre about 20,000
4,000 litre about 40,000

These assume litres per hour. We quote each size after a free water test, because the stages you need depend on your water.

Water filter plant vs RO plant

Water filter plant and RO plant compared
FeatureWater filter plant (UF)RO plant
Removes dirt, rust and bacteria YesYes
Lowers TDS and salty taste NoYes
Water to drain Very little, only backwash and flushingYes, a steady reject stream
Pressure and running cost LowHigher
Choose it when TDS is acceptableTDS is high or the taste is salty

What UF does not do

UF does not lower TDS. Salts, hardness and arsenic are dissolved in the water, so they pass through the membrane.

If your water tastes salty or the TDS is above the national limit of 1,000 mg/L, you need an RO plant instead.

If the problem is scale, look at a water softener.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a water filter plant and an RO plant?

A filter plant removes dirt, rust and germs but leaves dissolved salts in. An RO plant also removes the salts and lowers TDS. Choose by your TDS reading.

Does a UF plant reduce TDS?

No. Dissolved salts pass through a UF membrane. If TDS is the problem, you need RO.

Is water from a UF plant safe to drink?

UF and UV together remove sediment and hold back or kill bacteria. The water is only as safe as the source chemistry, so arsenic or high salts need a different system.

A lab test confirms it.

How often is the sand filter backwashed?

It depends on how dirty the feed water is. We set the backwash routine at installation.

Do you install community filtration plants?

Yes, for mosques, housing societies and other community sites, sized to the number of people using them.
